A scenic ferry ride across beautiful Shoalwater Bay to visit Penguin Island. Allow 30 minutes for your guided wildlife walk on Penguin Island, providing exclusive insight into the local penguins, the spectacular landscapes and the natural history of the island and if you have more time then you can enjoy swimming, snorkeling, exploring the nature trails or just relax and enjoy the beautiful nature reserve.

Please Note you will be placed on the next available Guided Wildlife Walk after your selected ferry time. This time will be allocated on your boarding pass as well as your coloured wristband on the day of your tour. All other relevant details can be found in the confirmation email after booking!


Inclusions & Departure Times:

  • Ferries depart from Shoalwater hourly from 9.00am to 3.00pm. Please note check in is 30 minutes prior to your ferry departure
  • Return ferries depart Penguin Island at 15 minutes past the hour, every hour from 10.15am to 3.15pm with the final ferry departing at 4pm sharp. Return ferries do not need to be booked in advance, simply wait at the Jetty for the next available departure
  • Extra departures and returns are scheduled every 20 to 30 minutes on busy days and fewer departures on non-peak days due to low passenger numbers if required
  • 30 minute guided wildlife walk of Penguin Island, providing exclusive insight into the local penguins, the spectacular landscapes and the natural history of the island

  • Swimming and snorkeling the crystal clear waters of Shoalwater Bay
  • Exploring the nature trails & boardwalks taking in spectacular views of the Marine Park
  • Having a picnic under the trees overlooking a safe swimming beach ideal for young children
  • Seeing nesting pelicans & other sea birds up close especially in September & October when the chicks are hatching.
  • Using the binoculars at the look outs to spot dolphins & whales (September to December)

Online bookings close 1 hour before departure; Tickets can be purchased over the counter (subject to availability).

2. The Department of Parks and Wildlife have officially removed the Discovery Centre from Penguin Island and the Penguin colony is completely wild on Penguin Island - this means we offer no guarantee sightings of the colony.
